Situated on the Ionian coast, in Lido Marini, a hamlet belonging to the municipality of Ugento in the province of Lecce, Punta del Macolone is a small oasis of peace with several reservoirs that have now become an integral part of the area. Travelling along the coastline connecting Gallipoli to Santa Maria di Leuca in a southerly direction, we come across this area rich in luxuriant vegetation where one breathes an air of absolute relaxation, and even in the height of summer one feels that sense of detachment and tranquillity compared to the more crowded beaches nearby. Punta del Macolone is an area of great natural beauty, characterised by low, easily passable cliffs interspersed with stretches of soft, golden beach, while the greenery of the typical Mediterranean maquis colours a fairytale landscape. Punta del Macolone is an ideal place for activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, boat trips and trekking along the coastal paths that wind through the various nature trails. The sea reflects different shades of blue and is shallow for large stretches with a seabed characterised by sand mixed with small rocks; the stretch of free beach is ideal for planting your beach umbrella, spreading your beach towel and enjoying a well-deserved day in the sun. The development of the various canals and reservoirs along the entire Punta del Macolone area has seen the proliferation of a particularly rich local flora and fauna, adapting to the specific habitat found along this stretch of coastline. The whole landscape is well worth a visit, even if only for a quick stop and a refreshing swim in these wonderful waters. Have a good summer at Lido Marini.
