The public beach at Punta Prosciutto is a succession of colours, high dunes and many positive feelings. The public beach covers so much of the bay that the equipped lidos seem like little meteors scattered here and there. Walking the length of the beach can be quite tiring but it is worth it. The ban on climbing the dunes in recent years has meant that they have grown more luxuriant in vegetation as well as appearing taller, so the spectacle they offer, in my opinion, cannot be equalled anywhere else in Salento. Until about twenty years ago, this area was practically deserted and little known, appreciated only by locals. With the advent of the internet and global tourism, this stretch of coastline has exploded with a growing tourist demand, making Punta Prosciutto one of the most sought-after destinations in Salento. The sea is the icing on the cake, crystal clear, tinged with different shades ranging from blue to green depending on the time of day and the viewpoint. If you come on holiday to Salento, remember to spend at least a day in Punta Prosciutto!
