Torre del Pizzo

Torre del Pizzo - Gallipoli

Immersed in the marvellous Regional Natural Park of Sant"Andrea Island and the Punta Pizzo coastline is this typical coastal tower called Torre del Pizzo, also known as Tu Cutieri, a 16th-century tower in Salento located at Punta Pizzo in the municipality of Gallipoli, in the province of Lecce. The Torre del Pizzo is part of the complex of coastal towers erected in the 16th century to defend the territory and scattered all along the Salento coast. Unlike the other towers that develop a quadrangular shape, the Pizzo Tower has a truncated cone shape at the base and then continues and ends in a circular form. There are several reasons to visit this beautiful tower with its wild and solitary air, first and foremost the surrounding landscape in close contact with unspoilt nature. Nearby the buzzard nests, a bird of prey that looks a bit like a hawk and hunts lizards and small rodents, and there is an air of peace and tranquillity that you will rarely find during the crowded Salento summer. Another aspect not to be underestimated is the nearby car park. Just bring your beach towel and, if necessary, a mask and flippers for a dip in this wonderful, crystal-clear blue sea for a swim among the most beautiful seabed of the Salento coast, all to be discovered. This stretch of coastline is characterised by large cliffs, so rock shoes are advisable. The water appears cool from the first dive, a peculiarity of this area, after which you can lie back and let the warm Salento sun dry you out. Nearby you will find the Cotriero, a well-equipped bathing establishment for all your needs. The place is recommended for those who love wild nature, tranquillity, cliffs and nature trails... Happy summer from Torre del Pizzo.
