The Nasparo Tower is located in the municipality of Tiggiano in the province of Lecce. We are on the eastern coast of Salento, bathed by the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea, and the Nasparo Tower is an example of coastal fortification and defence erected during the 16th century to cope with the constant raids of Saracen pirates. The Nasparo Tower rises about 300 metres from the sea and from the top of its promontory there is a beautiful panorama from which to admire that faint line that divides a turquoise sky from the blue of the immense Adriatic Sea. Of course, the ideal thing would be to enjoy the dawn of a new day and see the sun rise on the horizon, but a simple visit to this beautiful example of a coastal tower would not be bad either. Very little remains of the Nasparo Tower today. The construction has a truncated cone base with a diameter of 11 metres, and is divided by a curb with the upper part, almost completely collapsed, ending in a cylindrical shape. The Nasparo Tower communicated to the north with Torre Palane and to the south with Torre Specchia Grande, and stood in a strategic position since from its view one could peer out over the sea as far as the Cape of Otranto. The richness of an area that never ceases to amaze also passes through the history of these monuments, connecting the beauty of the landscape with its sheer cliffs overlooking the sea and breathtaking views with the history of a marvellous land... welcome to Salento.
