Torre Veneri

Frigole - Lecce

Torre Veneri is a coastal tower located on the Adriatic coast of Salento, in the province of Lecce, Apulia. The tower was built in the 16th century, during Spanish rule, as part of a system of coastal towers that served to defend the coast from incursions by Saracen pirates. The tower is located a few steps from the sea and is in a state of total abandonment. Of a truncated pyramid shape with a kerb to mark its end, Torre Veneri communicated to the south with Torre San Cataldo, now completely disappeared, and to the north with Torre Chianca. From the perspective of the tower there is an excellent view, the coastline stands out for its natural beauty in which expanses of Mediterranean scrub alternate with soft sand, framing the intense blue of a wonderful sea.
