The area of Tricase Porto offers several cues to the visitor who decides to spend some time among the narrow streets of this charming locality; we are in Lower Salento, on the eastern side of the Heel of Italy, and Tricase Porto is a small hamlet of Tricase that faces the Adriatic Sea, in the province of Lecce. This marina holds several natural areas all of considerable interest, and one of them is definitely Canale del Rio, a characteristic inlet whose rocky walls fall sheer directly into the sea. The peculiarity of the Canale del Rio is that it originates from an inland with a habitat partly altered by olive cultivations and with a stretch that sees a large wooded area with the presence in addition of the characteristic Aleppo pines and then ends its descent into the sea through a cliff that is colored green thanks to the dense Mediterranean scrub and that covers most of the final walls. The spectacle is particularly striking as the different natural colorations appear in different shades ranging from brown, to the white of the calcareous rocks and intertwined with the deep blue of a wonderful sea. The Rio Canal is now a coveted destination for many tourists who decide to visit it every year in the summer to enjoy this beautiful view and breathe that air that conveys relaxation and tranquility in a perfect fusion between the surrounding nature and the immensity represented by the Adriatic. In some places you can almost feel a sense of freedom, trying to close your eyes and let yourself be caressed by that light breeze that blows in these areas transmits an indescribable joy, small emotions that cost very little when we think of the spectacle before us. Perhaps it is the sumptuousness of the place and this almost fairy-tale cliff it is a fact that behind the Rio Canal there are several legends that tell stories of princes and devils who come to make strange pacts to see the shady desires of a principality unloved by the local population fulfilled, fairy tales aside the Rio Canal represents a wonder of nature and spending even a few hours contemplating this beautiful place will repay our mood in full.
