The Cesine Nature Reserve is a protected natural area located in the territory of Vernole, in the province of Lecce. We are located on the eastern side of Salento, along a characteristic stretch of coast bathed by the Adriatic Sea where sandy stretches alternate with low cliffs all immersed in the green of the typical Mediterranean scrub that colors much of the surrounding area. Here nature has given its best drawing an enchanting landscape where a multitude of animal species ranging from birds to reptiles, from fish to insects, have found their ideal habitat adapting to a landscape completely divorced from the hand of man. The Cesine Nature Reserve represents a respectable naturalistic oasis, highly recommended for those who intend to escape from the daily hustle and bustle of big cities and thus take refuge in this wonderful nature reserve for a relaxing and scenic experience. For lovers of nature trails, the Cesine lends itself willingly as the whole area is characterized by paths in close contact with unspoiled nature; in the oasis there are two ponds that are fed by rains each season and are divided from the sea by an evocative cordon of sand dunes. Getting lost in this experience in an explosion of natural colors that see clusters of red berries or the green of the pine forests with all the scents of aromatic herbs accompanying our relaxing walk represents an emotion that has no equal. The Cesine Nature Reserve is managed by WWF and has as its symbol the pochard, a diving duck found in the oasis" ponds. When nature replaces the hand of man it generates a unique spectacle, if you come to visit this reserve do so on tiptoe, with due respect and let"s bring back the garbage bags at the end of the day. Greetings from the Cesine.
