Torre Specchiolla

Salento, Casalabate - Squinzano-Trepuzzi: Torre Specchiolla is a coastal tower in Salento located in the municipality of Squinzano, in Casalabate a few kilometers from Lecce. The tower dates back to the 16th century and was built by the Spaniards to defend the coast from Saracen pirates; Torre Specchiolla communicated to the south with Torre Rinalda while to the north with Torre San Gennaro, now completely disappeared. This beautiful example of a 16th-century tower, which stands just a few steps from the beautiful Adriatic Sea, has recently been restored and is an imposing, quadrangular structure with a wide base that narrows upward, culminating in a panoramic terrace. Inside, the tower was divided into two floors, where the ground floor most likely served as a cistern, while the second floor housed the soldiers on guard duty. Today, Torre Specchiolla is privately owned and serves as a constant sentinel to the entire surrounding landscape with its historical and architectural value. The panoramic view from the top of the tower allows you to admire the splendid Salento coastline and the crystal clear sea, making it a great destination for those who love nature and history. Have a good summer from Casalabate.
