Salento, Torre Castiglione - Porto Cesareo: Immersed in the Mediterranean maquis and somewhat isolated from the inhabited area, one can glimpse on the tip of a cliff what remains of Torre Castiglione. The reasons for the collapse can most probably be attributed to the karstic activity in the area; in fact, the cliff itself is full of spunnulate due to the subsidence of the ground below. The tower ruin is small and square-shaped and falls within the fief of Nardò. From the tower"s vantage point, one can see not only the beaches of Torre Castiglione but also the beautiful surrounding Mediterranean scrub. The tower served as a lookout point and was located between Torre Lapillo to the south and Torre Colimena to the north.
