The Isola della Fanciulla beach is an enchanting and secluded place, a glimpse of Apulia surrounded by the green of the Mediterranean maquis that colours uninterrupted stretches of dunes of fine white sand, and a transparent sea with different shades of blue and turquoise to complete a picture-postcard landscape. Experiencing this beautiful beach fully repays the soul and spirit, in close contact with unspoilt nature. We are in Torre Pali, a small marina in the municipality of Salve, in the province of Lecce, which in summer fills up with tourists and holidaymakers in search of relaxation and tranquillity, and the Spiaggia dell"Isola della Fanciulla (Beach of the Maiden Island) represents the most evocative solution for spending a comfortable and well-deserved day at the sea. The beach owes its name to a somewhat isolated rock where, according to legend, it was the scene of a dramatic epilogue due to the story of a young local girl who was kidnapped and then killed by Saracen pirates because the girl decided not to renounce her faith; the discovery of her body by a local fisherman on one of these rocks closes the fairy tale. The beach is interspersed with a few points where a low cliff stands out that is easy to walk on; the sea, which is shallow for long stretches, has a sandy seabed mixed with small sea stones; however, rock shoes are recommended for greater comfort; the rich seabed lends itself marvellously to both diving activities and simple regenerating swims. Have a good summer from the Island of the Maiden Beach.
