Torre Pali
Salento, Torre Pali - Salve: The 16th-century tower of Torre Pali is located in the locality of the same name, along the Ionian coast of Salento, in the municipality of Salve, in the province of Lecce. Torre Pali was built during the 16th century to cope with the continuous raids of the Saracen pirates who raged the coasts of Salento in those years; due to the erosion of the coast due to frequent atmospheric phenomena, the tower is now completely surrounded by water, and although it has been partially recovered, what remains of the structure is represented by an important portion of the scarped plinth, with a diameter of about 12 metres, and the remaining part of the cylindrical body, as well as the kerb. The tower communicated with Torre Vado to the south and Torre Mozza to the north. Today Torre Pali stands in an unusual panoramic position, but this does not diminish its symbolic value, representing one of the many historical monuments in the Salento area and a popular tourist destination, especially in summer, thanks to the beauty of the surrounding landscape and its thousand-year history.
