Torre del Sasso

Tricase

Torre del Sasso is a coastal tower in the Salento region and is part of the complex of fortifications erected during the 16th century to defend the territory from the constant incursions of the Saracen pirates that raged along the Salento coast in those years. Torre del Sasso is located in the municipality of Tricase, in the locality of Serra del Mito, and stands on a high cliff almost 400 metres above the sea, signifying its position as a perennial sentinel. Currently the Torre del Sasso is in a state of total abandonment. Partly almost completely collapsed, this imposing ruin has the classic quardangular shape on a truncated pyramid base; the interior consisted of a single room with barrel vaults. The Torre del Sasso falls under the Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase Regional Natural Park and communicated to the north with Torre Porto di Ripa and to the south with Torre del Porto di Tricase. From this high rock you can enjoy a breathtaking view, in summer a pleasant wind blows, the sensations and pleasures of being in the presence of an imposing historical monument mix with the tranquillity of the surroundings and relaxation is guaranteed. Glimpses of a timeless Salento and summer scents from Torre del Sasso di Tricase... enjoy your stay.
