Torre Palane is a 16th-century tower located in Marina Serra, a locality that falls under the municipality of Tricase in the province of Lecce. Torre Palane is part of the complex defense and watchtower system erected during the 16th century along the entire coast of Salento to cope with the constant raids of Saracen pirates that raged the coast at the time. Quadrangular in shape, it develops in two single floors divided by a curb, and the final part continues with a central body surrounded by corbels that draw its classic shape. The Palane Tower as a whole is preserved all in all in very good condition, recently restored it towers as a sentinel of the territory on a low cliff that directly overlooks the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea. The building communicated to the north with Torre del Porto di Tricase and to the south with Torre Nasparo, today as an illustrious testimony to a time long gone, the Palane Tower represents a coveted destination for many tourists who cross this coast every year to discover a territory all to experience for the strong emotions it continues to offer. The sea, the coasts, the nature trails crossing expanses of Mediterranean scrub, dry stone walls and centuries-old olive trees represent a unique wealth for Salento, and the Torre Palane completes the complexity of a wonderful landscape. This is Puglia in all its beauty, glimpses of an area that conveys emotions from any perspective you observe it, this is Salento with its millenary history... have a good summer at Marina Serra.
