Torre Squillace beach, also known as Li Scianuli, is a small tongue of sand adjacent to the ancient 16th-century tower of the same name. It is a free and uninhabited beach where the sand is quite coarse and full of pebbles so that hanging out the towel could be a bit uncomfortable for the most finicky. Entering the water, which is shallow at first and accessible to all, one immediately notices the natural presence of various sea pebbles and a poorly maintained seabed, but this does not prevent us from cooling off during a hot summer; all we need is a pair of rock shoes. Although of a fairly modest length the beach is characterized by an inlet from which it is easy to reach the cliff for a dip in the pristine blue waters where it is said that Lucio Battisti was inspired by this crystal clear sea and wrote precisely the song Acqua azzurra acqua chiara. Relaxation is assured the beach as well as the nearby cliff is usually frequented by locals who love tranquility and privacy.
