Porto Miggiano is a seaside resort in the municipality of Santa Cesarea Terme in the province of Lecce and is located in the eastern part of Salento. It faces the Adriatic Sea and borders Castro to the south while Santa Cesarea Terme to the north. Of rare beauty turns out to be the beach of the 100 steps.
Salento, Porto Miggiano - Santa Cesarea Terme: Spiaggia dei 100 Scalini or Spiaggia dei Cento Gradini, also simply called Baia di Miggiano or Cala di Miggiano is a small beach hidden inside an inlet near Porto Miggiano. It is called Spiaggia dei 100 Scalini (Beach of 100 Steps) precisely because of the fact that to reach the small beach one has to walk down quite a few steps. To get down to the little beach there are actually two options: the first, also the easiest, is to go down using the steps made of concrete that allow you to get to the bottom of the beach without any problems (apparently, however, it seems that the access is closed by a gate because of danger of collapse), the other option to go down to the Spiaggetta dei 100 Scalini is very dangerous, in fact you have to be very careful where to put your feet to avoid falling and finding yourself down with broken bones. Once you reach the little beach you will find yourself in paradise, the sea is emerald green surrounded by an impressive high cliff and the whole surrounding landscape is a wonder for the eyes and the spirit. The small beach, with its fine white sand, almost contrasts with a stretch of coastline that is distinctive and well-known because of the high, steep cliffs precisely signifying a precious stone set in the rock. This stretch of coastline is a masterpiece of nature to be visited without any doubt.
Salento, Porto Miggiano - Santa Cesarea Terme: Torre di Porto Miggiano or simply Miggiano Tower, is located in the municipality of Santa Cesarea Terme, in Porto Miggiano, in the province of Lecce. As can be glimpsed from the light-colored ashlars that distinguish it, the tower has been fully restored to its original splendor of a distant past. Torre Miggiano is part of that complex system of sighting erected during the course of the 16th century to defend the native population of the continuous incursions of the Turkish pirates who raged the coasts in those years, and it has a circular shape divided by a curb that delimits its final part. Torre Miggiano communicated to the south with the fortifications of Castro and to the north with Torre Santa Cesarea, the tower is located a few meters from the sea and stands on a rocky ridge overlooking the deep, clear blue of the Adriatic Sea. From here you can enjoy an evocative panorama, when the sea is a bit rough the perpetual wave motion slams violently against this cliff that seems so expertly shaped by mother nature; in the height of summer Porto Miggiano is quite busy because of the more famous Spiaggia dei Cento Scalini (Hundred Steps Beach), and the Miggiano Tower together with the tiny harbor complete a respectable landscape, surrounded by unspoiled nature and the beauty of the area...have a good summer from the Tower of Porto Miggiano.
Salento, Porto Miggiano - Santa Cesarea Terme: Sometimes in planning a summer vacation one tries to combine different sensibilities and tastes in choosing a particular place; there are those who prefer the deep, golden beach, those who seek instead the cliffs because most of the time the water is much cooler and clearer than on a crowded beach, those who prefer the nightlife with loud music and wild fun, and those who are looking for a remote and little-known place to take advantage and enjoy some relaxation. It is not easy to satisfy the different needs and this is understandable, but many times a little advice is perhaps welcome. We are in Porto Miggiano, in the province of Lecce, on the eastern side of Salento, on the outskirts of Santa Cesarea Terme a town famous for its thermal waters and location of several discos that have been satisfying the tastes of many young people for many years now. At Porto Miggiano one can admire above all the Pilane, these characteristic sculptures, artfully carved by expert hands and caressed by the sea over the centuries and that today represent singular tourist attractions that surround and frame real natural open-air pools, a destination in the height of summer for many families who decide to spend a day at the beach at this typical stretch of coastline. The depth of the water remains shallow for long stretches so let your children play peacefully in the sea, and this place is a fair compromise especially when the sea is a tad rough being sheltered from the wind. Porto Miggiano is a small village, quiet with its little harbor, the 16th century tower and especially the Pilane, that"s why it"s worth dropping by this enchanted village and experience in person those emotions we need especially in summer. The warm Salento sun will do the rest by warming our bodies when we get out of the sea we will be spoiled for choice in looking for an inviting rock where we can lay down our towel and relax maybe with our favorite book. Small gestures, a sea of positive feelings, and the blue Adriatic surrounding our thoughts...welcome to the Pilanas and have a good summer from Porto Miggiano.
Salento, Porto Miggiano - Santa Cesarea Terme: Grotta delle Ancore is located on that stretch of coastline that connects Porto Miggiano to Santa Cesarea Terme, characterized by broad cliffs and beautiful inlets that draw a landscape of singular wonder. Every corner, every rock, every ravine of this coastal stretch represents a story in itself, and the deep blue of the Adriatic Sea completes a fabulous panorama. The Grotta delle Ancore is one of the many sea caves in this specific area and can be reached along a path through a small staircase that is not exactly comfortable and safe (which I strongly advise against), by swimming perhaps taking advantage of snorkeling and discovering these beautiful seabeds, or by boat. In the height of summer, however, there are various local associations that organize various guided excursions to visit this beautiful stretch of coast in comfort. The bay that houses the sea cavity is very characteristic and the Anchor Cave appears to our eyes as a gash in the limestone rock and a regular entrance being the cave not very deep. In the middle of summer this place is quite busy and crowded with people looking for some refreshment or simply by those who enjoy a healthy regenerating swim. For diving lovers there are several stations from which to try their hand and go in search of pure adrenaline rush. The place is ill-advised perhaps when the sea is rough and the waves slam violently against the rocks, in that context it would perhaps be appropriate to sit in a sheltered spot and enjoy the perpetual and relaxing wave motion. The place where Anchor Cave is located turns out to be very secluded so perhaps bring a cooler bag full of cold drinks with you for possible needs. Happy vacations from the Grotta delle Ancore in Porto Miggiano.
Salento, Porto Miggiano - Santa Cesarea Terme: Porto Miggiano is a tourist resort in Salento and overlooks a stretch of coastline that sees the prevalence of wide cliffs that end directly in the sea and the presence of numerous caves and inlets all worth visiting. We are located on the southeastern side of the Salento coast, where the mighty Adriatic Sea washes these shores, and Porto Miggiano, usually an almost desolate village in the winter becomes populated as never before in the height of summer with tourists and locals who during the summer months move in from the cities opening their summer homes and enjoying this spectacular landscape. Porto Miggiano is part of the municipality of Santa Cesarea Terme, and in addition to being home to the sixteenth-century tower of the same name, with the presence of the striking Grotta delle Ancore, the Pilane and the more famous Spiaggia dei Cento Scalini, it also has a small marina that in midsummer is taken by storm by swimmers and tourists looking for a bit of coolness from the summer heat. The harbor is located in a characteristic artificial bay that sees the presence from high white limestone walls from which there is a beautiful panorama that mixes the green of the headlands surrounded by Mediterranean scrub with the blue of these transparent waters. The sea is shallow at first and is ideal for families with children, plus Miggiano Harbor is not very far from the center so it should be easy to reach a bar or a market to refresh yourself with some drinks. At the height of summer, Miggiano Harbor attracts many people because of its convenience of being easily reached and also because it is a tourist attraction as well as a meeting point. There is a summer air here with that slight warm breeze that usually blows in these parts, and the sensations one gathers by frequenting this quaint little port are more than positive. Scent of Salento summer surrounded by the beauties of Porto Miggiano ... have a good vacation.
