Spiaggia di Torre Colimena

Salento, Torre Colimena - Manduria: In this part of Salento, where the different dialects mingle, where the different histories of a land rich in traditions intersect, where that invisible border between the provinces of Taranto and Lecce is barely noticeable, lies Torre Colimena Beach, a true corner of paradise. Immersed in a fascinating landscape made up of long stretches of soft, golden sand, with sand dunes mingling with the typical Mediterranean scrub and a sea that presents different shades of colours ranging from azure to green and deep blue, this stretch of coastline represents an unspoilt oasis still untouched by the mass tourism that pours onto the Salento coast every summer. I have serious difficulties in sponsoring these places precisely because with the passage of time the Torre Colimena beach has maintained all that characteristic aspect of a wild and solitary nature unaccustomed to the multitude of people and therefore light years away from crowded and noisy beaches. The Torre Colimena beach is right next to this characteristic village and is easily reached by a small bridge that leads from the road directly to the beach. Pink flamingos come here every year for a short stop, and the total absence of bathing establishments combined with the difficulty of reaching the most secluded corners of the beach, as one has to walk for long stretches before discovering the most evocative views, make Torre Colimena Beach an enchanting and secluded place. I don"t recommend it at all to large families with bundles of bundles and children in tow, certainly more accustomed to the comforts of a well-equipped beach lido rather than getting lost on useless safaris; Torre Colimena Beach is devoid of any services, you will find yourself swallowed up in another dimension, take only your beach towel with you, and a word of advice: turn off your mobile phones, it"s just you and nature. These places deserve all our attention and due respect, they are delicate ecosystems, so take your rubbish bags back with you at the end of the day. Corners of an Apulia of bygone days and scents of summer in Torre Colimena!

Riserva Naturale Salina dei Monaci

Salento, Torre Colimena - Manduria: The Salina dei Monaci di Torre Colimena is a natural oasis of rare beauty that deserves our full attention. Situated along the stretch of coastline that connects Torre Colimena to Punta Prosciutto, this corner of paradise is now a Regional Nature Reserve thanks to its environmental characteristics that see the presence of compatible ecosystems as well as the constant presence of migratory bird species, including the beautiful pink flamingos; they can be admired in flight with their characteristic long necks or while they are calmly in the water inside the natural basin. This area is the jewel in the crown of a nature trail rich in indigenous species ranging from the extensive Mediterranean scrub to the high sand dunes and the presence of a small salt pond where absolute peace reigns among the various animal species and the human presence even seems superfluous; even a simple lizard poses for a shot, such is the tranquillity one breathes in close contact with the surrounding nature. Walking through the different paths along the wooden fences positioned to guide you along the different routes, you will feel enraptured by the beauty of the place, and the scent of the strawberry trees combined with the other wild plant species will fully repay your decision to stop even for a moment to admire this wonderful area. The Salina is known as the Salina dei Monaci because in the past this area fell under the jurisdiction of the Benedictine monks who managed the entire area. Today this earthly paradise is the pride of the entire Salento, completely recovered and reclaimed from the neglect of man, who in years gone by decided to cross it by building a provincial road right along this stretch of coastline. The beauties of our beloved Apulia never cease to amaze if you pass this way, don"t forget the Salina dei Monaci, but with the right respect and on tiptoe as nature asks... happy holidays!

Spiaggia di Punta Cacata

Salento, Torre Colimena - Manduria: Punta Cacata Beach is a stretch of free beach located on the beautiful Ionian Sea at Torre Colimena. This stretch of coastline is characterised by fine white sand in a mix of Mediterranean scrub and high sand dunes. The crystal-clear blue sea is shallow for long stretches and small sea pebbles and scattered stones can also be seen at the entrance to the sea; this particular beach is characterised by the fact that much of its shoreline is formed by flat, slippery rocks, so be careful when entering the water. Punta Cacata beach is a real delight because it fully encompasses the three maxims for those who come to Salento, namely the sun, especially when it sets, the sea, fragrant and wonderful, and the wind that pleasantly caresses our bodies. The total absence of services characterises this lonely and wild place, so I do not recommend it if you are fussy and demanding. This beach is ideal for those in search of tranquillity, especially in the early hours of the morning. This corner of paradise will surprise you with the relaxation and tranquillity it will transmit to you, immortalising moments that will remain engraved in the most precious memories of your holiday. Summer is coming... what are you waiting for? The Punta Cacata beach is in Torre Colimena.

Torre Colimena

Salento, Torre Colimena - Manduria: Right in the centre of this small village called Torre Colimena we find the tower of the same name that soars majestically among prickly pear plants and low cliffs overlooking the sea. This 16th-century coastal tower is part of that complex system of territorial defence in which numerous towers are scattered along the entire Salento coastline. Torre Colimena has remained intact over the centuries. This beautiful monument is now home to a museum of ancient ceramics that were used for storing wine, and access to the public is allowed by prior reservation. This area is as rich in history and culture as the whole of Apulia, and these glimpses of an ancient landscape represented by this beautiful tower are today the pride of a wonderful and undiscovered land called Salento. Enjoy your summer and happy holidays in Torre Colimena.
